Our Founding

Built on a belief

Est. 2018

Aurelia Aesthetics was founded in 2018 by Dr. Sarah Chen and Dr. James Park — two board-certified dermatologists who trained at Columbia and NYU respectively, and who shared a growing frustration with the direction aesthetic medicine was taking in New York City.

They saw clinics prioritising volume over outcomes, high-pressure sales over honest conversation, and trend-chasing over timeless results. They believed their patients — and New York City as a whole — deserved something more considered.

So they opened Aurelia: a boutique, doctor-led practice on the Upper East Side dedicated to one idea above all others — that the best aesthetic work is the work you cannot quite place. You look well-rested. Refreshed. Unmistakably yourself. Only better.

Six years on, that founding belief remains the foundation of everything we do.

Why board certification matters

In the United States, the term "aesthetic injector" has no legal definition. Anyone — regardless of medical background — can legally offer injectables in certain states. The result is an industry where training and safety standards vary enormously.

Board certification is the clearest signal a physician can offer that their training has been rigorously assessed by independent experts in their specialty.

At Aurelia, both physicians are board-certified dermatologists — meaning they completed accredited residencies, passed comprehensive written and oral examinations, and continue to meet strict ongoing education requirements.
